Torre d’Orti

"For hundreds of years, the name Torre d'Orti on the topographic maps of San Martino Buonalbergo has indicated a very specific part of the mountain that overlooks the town of the hamlet of Marcellise."

Being the ridge from which you can enjoy the best view, it was chosen by the lords who built the nearby Castle of Montorio to be the seat of the watchtower, a privileged point from which to control the movements of the enemy. A few centuries later it was used by the locals for various crops; As evidence of the period, there are still terraces that were created to cultivate olive trees, vines and wheat.

Hence the name of this charming locality, which in more recent times, after being acquired by the Piona family, has been converted into a vineyard for the production of Valpolicella wines.
